Garden Trends for 2017

With summer in full swing, the amount of time being spent outside each week is on the rise. Whilst the garden has always been a haven for homeowners, this year more than ever it is being utilised as a place to entertain, relax and play games.

With summer in full swing, the amount of time being spent outside each week is on the rise. Whilst the garden has always been a haven for homeowners, this year more than ever it is being utilised as a place to entertain, relax and play games. Here are some of the top trends this season:

1. Outdoor kitchens

Whilst the British BBQ (whatever the weather) is nothing new, the cooking equipment being invested in has become more sophisticated this year. As well as the trusty charcoal or gas BBQ, pizza ovens are becoming more common in the garden as well as bespoke outdoor units incorporating a fridge and sink into people’s outdoor space.

2. Outdoor games areas

Though the garden is traditionally a domain for children to play in, this year adults have reclaimed this space for games of their own too. As well as petanque pitches being popular, giant versions of games such as Jenga and chess are becoming more common, with paving slabs being used to great effect to create all-weather chequerboards.

3. Relaxation zones

With many new build houses being small, the garden is acting as an extension of living space. As well as decking areas incorporating tables and chairs for dining and entertaining guests, hammocks are now not uncommon in the garden as well as inflatable sofas – perfect for when friends of family come over for that wood fired pizza!
