Pupils from Alwoodley Primary School in Leeds got a surprise on Wednesday morning when they arrived for school and found they’d had some rocky visitors from outer space!

As part of a Curriculum Enrichment Day entitled "Meteor Day" teachers at the school organized the event that involved local Police sealing off part of the school grounds with tape as if real meteorites had struck.

The supposed space rocks were actually sourced and supplied by Mone Bros’ Blackhill Quarry near Bramhope.

Quarry Manager Craig Morrell commented: “We were only too happy to help out the school when we found out about their project and we sourced some shaped sandstone rocks that became meteorites!”
