Gardening is a great hobby, and a love of many people here in Yorkshire, partly because it gets you outside and exercising as well as giving you rewarding results.

At Mone Bros DIY, we regularly meet gardeners looking for gravel, top soil and stone products such as paving to make their outdoors look as good as the inside of their homes. Because of that, we know a thing or two about gardening, and have prepared these top tips for beginners to help you along the way.

1.     Start Up – First things first, you need a place reserved for gardening. A good place to start is with a container garden. It’s small, manageable and perfect for a first timer. Plus, this way you can ensure the soil is fertile and it is much easier to control with weeds.

2.
Soil and drainage – The key to growing healthy plants is good soil and drainage. At Mone Bros we provide double screened topsoil, which is ideal for a Yorkshire gardener looking for the very best in their garden. Suggested to be used on vegetable patches, flower beds and grass seeds! For drainage, ensure your container has holes in the bottom.

3.
Research your plants – some plants need sunshine and some need shade, therefore research into the location of where you should keep your plants is key to keeping them alive

4.
Timing – to ensure that your garden is a real success it is all about time. You need to plant the right plants at the right time to ensure they grow properly. Any garden centre will be able to advise on this to ensure you’re right there with the seasons.
